Course Objectives

·         To give students required general chemistry knowledge to be applied in their science and engineering disciplines to solve their relevant problems.

·         To familiarize students with engineering problems and develop skills to identify and formulate complex problems into their basic components to be able to analyze them.

·         To develop students command of English both oral and written.

Course Outcomes

i. Adequate knowledge in mathematics, science and engineering subjects pertaining to the relevant discipline; ability to use theoretical and applied information in these areas to model and solve engineering problems.

ii. Ability to work efficiently in intra-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary teams; ability to work individually.

(Disiplin içi ve çok disiplinli takımlarda etkin biçimde çalışabilme becerisi; bireysel çalışma becerisi.)

iii. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; knowledge of a minimum of one foreign language.

(Sözlü ve yazılı etkin iletişim kurma becerisi; en az bir yabancı dil bilgisi.)

Additional Remarks

  • Come to class. Each two hour session is complete in itself so it makes little sense to come to one only.
  • If you miss a class, make up for it. Ask your classmates what they did and read it from the book and/or from the notes.
  • Listen while you are in class!

·         Solve the problems that are assigned at the end of each chapter. If you have trouble solving them, direct your questions to the lecturer.

·         Follow the following webpage for the announcements:

http://chbe.yeditepe.edu.tr/courses/chem111/

·         As a student you are responsible for:

·         Coming to classes prepared (read the necessary chapters/sections and complete the supplementary materials, such as homework, prior to class)

·         Following the classes and lectures (such as homework and study guides)

·         Attending the classes

·         Seeking the information and knowledge you need (through instructor and/or other source)

·         Following the announcements (in lectures or through the course web-page)
